Workshop: Orca
Brought to you by AlgoMech
Orca is a strange, yet deceptively simple visual playground that has been taking the world of esoteric music technology by storm. This hands-on workshop, suitable for total beginners, will give an overview of some of its applications in livecoding and interactive arts. This workshop requires no prior programming or music composition knowledge!
To give you an idea about what ORCA is like, have a look at the #ORCΛ hashtag on twitter. It's full of mesmerising examples from the fast-growing community.
Here also is a tutorial video, but don't look too hard - we'll be covering a lot of this in the workshop!
For more info on Orca, see the documentation and installation instructions
If possible, participants should bring their own laptop (OSX/Windows/Linux), and headphones - but let us know if that's a problem, or if you have any questions.
This workshop requires no prior programming or music composition knowledge.
AlgoMech is Sheffield's Festival of Algorithmic and Mechanical Arts, funded by Arts Council England, Arts and Humanities Research Council, European Research Council, Sheffield City of Ideas, and Sheffield Making Ways.
