Roundtable discussion: making flexible working work for women

Brought to you by Sheffield Women in Tech

For this months’ BYO lunch meetup, we’re delighted to have Dr Pamela Abbott from the Information School, The University of Sheffield joining us. Pamela is interested in how we design and implement flexible working policies and how hybrid workers cope with these new practices, and she’ll be facilitating a conversation over lunch. We know this is a big topic of interest for all of us and we’d love you to join us for a chat.

Places at this event are limited to 20 to ensure we can hear from everyone, so grab your ticket and join in the conversation. We’re thankful as always to Tech Parks for hosting this event.

Agenda:

Arrival 12.00 - Grab a drink and something sweet to go with your BYO lunch

12.15 - 13.30 - Informal conversation over lunch facilitated by Pamela

13.30 - 14.00 - We’ll wrap up but you’re welcome to stop back

Our guest facilitator Dr Pamela Abbott joined the Information School, The University of Sheffield as a senior lecturer in Information Systems in 2016. She has a keen interest in how digital technologies enable or constrain solutions to complex social challenges. She does a lot of work in developing countries through outreach projects on open scholarship working with higher education and librarian communities in West Africa. She also leads the Information Systems Research Group in her department, which includes a research cluster on digitalisation, emerging technologies and the future of work/life experiences. Her research on hybrid work is part of this research cluster.

Dr Abbott is currently leading a Knowledge Exchange project entitled “Transitioning to hybrid working: future scoping digital competencies for the 'new normal’” and as such is perfectly placed to help guide a conversation around this subject. The project involves two knowledge exchange workshops, and there will be an opportunity on the day to discuss the second workshop, which will explore reflections from employees engaged in hybrid working and their opinions around how it affects their productivity, wellbeing and work/life balance. That workshop will also involve exploring how emerging technologies can shape hybrid working. For more information about this workshop, use this Eventbrite link.
